Sarawak v Darul Ta'zim
JDT thrash Sarawak but Felda stay top of Malaysia Super League
Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) thrashed Sarawak 5-2 on Wednesday evening at Larkin Stadium but Felda United stayed a point clear at the top of the Malaysia Super League, thanks to a 4-0 win at home to PDRM FA.
JDT did the damage in the first half. Jorge Pereyra Diaz gave the hosts the lead after just four minutes but on the quarter hour, Gurusamy Govandar shocked the champions with an equaliser for Sarawak. It was short-lived as the Southern Tigers scored four more times in the last 10 minutes of the first half.
Marcos Antonio restored the lead after 35 minutes and within seconds, fellow Argentine Juan Martin Lucero extended the advantage. An own goal from Shahrol Saperi ended Sarawak hopes of any kind of result and there was still time for Fazley Mazlan to add a fifth.
The Crocs pulled one back, thanks to a Fadhli Shas own goal early in the second half. But nothing was going to stop Mario Gomez's men picking up a sixth win of the season.
Felda maintained their excellent start to 2016, winning game number seven out of the eight played so far.
The Fighters controlled the first half and took the lead thanks to a short-range stab home from Christie Jayaselan after 21 minutes. Five minutes later, Uzbekistan star Lutfulla Turayev curled a delightful free-kick into the top corner of the Cops' goal.
The scoreline stayed the same until two minutes from the end as Turayev added his second and his team's third with a fine header. There was still time for Francis Doe Forkey to make it 4-0.
Selangor moved into third above PDRM with a 1-0 win at home to Penang that came courtesy of a Mauro Olivi goal after 17 minutes. The islanders' winless streak is now six games and they slip into the relegation zone.
Climbing out are Pahang. An injury-time strike from German Pacheco gave them a 4-3 win over Kelantan at home, a second victory in four days, to take the Elephants out of the bottom two for the first time this season.
A crucial three-point haul seemed to heading Pahang's way just after the break they took a 3-1 lead, only for Kelantan to level proceedings with just 12 minutes remaining. The scoreline stayed the same until Pacheco intervened.
In the evening's other fixture, Kedah suffered their second loss of the season, going down 4-1 at T-Team.
