Nine-man Angers dig deep to earn point at Rennes

Rennes were held to a 1-1 draw by nine-man Angers as they missed the chance to go up to fourth in the Ligue 1 table.

Ivory Coast international Giovanni Sio opened the scoring for the hosts on 21 minutes after he latched onto a through ball by Ludovic Baal before rounding goalkeeper Mathieu Michel and squeezing the ball in from a tight angle.

The night got worse for the visitors as Romain Thomas saw red on 58 minutes for pulling Sio's shirt when the forward was through on goal.

Nicolas Pepe equalised for Angers with a powerful left-footed strike from 20 yards with eight minutes left before they were reduced to nine men following Cheikh N'Doye's dismissal in stoppage time but held on to share the spoils.
