Jordan Webb returns but Warriors FC held by Young Lions in S.League
Canadian-born winger Jordan Webb returned after a two-match absence due to injury, but Warriors FC could only draw 0-0 against bottom side Garena Young Lions at Jalan Besar Stadium on Wednesday night.
The result is another dent to the Warriors' fading title hopes as they are now 10 points behind leaders Albirex Niigata (S) after 12 matches played.
Razif Onn's side could have made the perfect start by scoring on seven minutes, but Baihakki Khaizan's header from Shahril Ishak's corner went straight to Zharfan Rohaizad.
Young Lions took some time to settle into their tempo and threatened in the 25th minute, with Ikhsan Fandi's shot calling Warriors stand-in custodian Zainol Gulam into action.
Warriors were largely on top though, and went close twice towards the end of the first half, but Baihakki's and Syaqir Sulaiman's efforts were brilliantly tipped over by Zharfan.
Opposite number Zainol was keen not to be overshadowed, as he produced an excellent save with his legs to deny Taufik Suparno from point-blank range to ensure both sides go into the break goalless.
Warriors returned for the second half with plenty of vigour, with Fadhil Noh glancing Emmeric Ong's right-wing cross just wide on 48 minutes.
Richard Tardy's Young Lions then threatened twice after the hour mark. Taufik nodded Rusyaidi's free kick just wide before Muhelmy Suhaimi's close-range shot crashed off the underside of the crossbar.
The Warriors dominated the final 20 minutes, but were unable to breach the Young Lions five-man backline.
The sides had to settle for a draw, with the Young Lions remaining bottom with three points from 12 outings, and still searching for their first win.
"To be honest, we didn't play to expectations especially in the first half. We allowed Young Lions too much time and space on the ball," Warriors FC Head Coach Razif Onn said.
"We tried to contain them. but they were at times too fast. We had good chances of our own in the second-half, but it's a pity Shahril [Ishak] and Hafiz Nor could not score. If you don't score, you don't win games -- it's as simple as that."
