Adelaide United up to third with defeat of Perth Glory
Adelaide United have returned to the A-League winner's circle beating the defensively troubled Perth Glory 3-0 at nib Stadium on Friday night.
Adelaide had lost three straight but a Perth defence who gave up six goals to Sydney FC last week was again was found wanting.
The Reds opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Daniel Adlung, who later went off just before half-time with a back complaint.
Second-half strikes from Nathan Konstandopoulos and Johan Absalonsen wrapped up the win.
The victory moves Adelaide up to third position ahead of both Melbourne City and Victory who are yet to play this round.
Perth sits seventh and could sink to eighth by the end of the weekend.
The tone was set with Adelaide scoring far too easily in the 10th minute. Nikola Mileusnic cruised down the right wing, found an unmarked Adlung alone in the box to side-foot home.
It wasn't as if Glory weren't attacking and getting in good positions. But through both a lack of polish and a strong Adelaide defence, they couldn't find a way through.
It was the polar opposite up the other end of the pitch as Absalonsen once crossed from the left and Konstandopoulos applied a simple finish.
The thumping was secured with a controversial goal to Absalonsen who was running back with the ball as it was collected by Glory keeper Liam Reddy.
The pair collided for the ball to spill loose and Absalonsen pounced to put it in the open net.
Glory remain at home to host Melbourne City on Tuesday while Adelaide are away to Western Sydney Wanderers on Wednesday.
Adelaide coach Marko Kurz saluted his side he managed to win despite the absence of Paul Izzo, Ben Garuccio and George Blackwood who were unavailable due to Olyroos duties.
"We had big problems because we lost three starters for the under-23 tournament so it was not so easy to find the right lineup, but the boys did a good job," Kurz said.
"The victory was important also because we played very serious and controlled, and waited for the right moment. I am very happy with the comeback of Johan who scored and prepared a goal. That's very important for us because we missed him."
Glory coach Kenny Lowe, who received a yellow card for swearing, was making no excuses for his team conceding nine goals without scoring in the space of a week.
"Everybody has to look at themselves, me included. We are all in it together, it's not about individuals," Lowe said.
"Obviously we are all hurting at the moment and rightly so. It wasn't and isn't acceptable, but the only way you grow and get out of these types of things is being positive and trying to right the wrongs."
