Andy Keogh on target as Perth Glory edge out Adelaide United

A late goal from captain Andy Keogh saw Perth Glory overcome some brilliant Paul Izzo goalkeeping to beat Adelaide United 1-0 at nib Stadium.

Izzo looked set to earn Adelaide at least a point with a superb performance for the Reds. It began when he saved a Diego Castro penalty in the fourth minute.

Among his other saves was a brilliant effort to deny Adam Taggart but eventually Perth found a way past him.

Keogh's header got the job done in the 80th minute as Glory made it two from two at home.

Perth are up to fourth with seven points; Adelaide slip to sixth with a win, two draws and two losses.

Glory had the chance for the perfect start when Keogh drew a penalty in the third minute after being taken down by Michael Marrone.

They would have pencilled in Castro to convert. But he delivered a meek offering that Izzo saved low to his left.

Keogh had the other glaring chance in a blistering opening seven minutes from the home side. His shot went straight at Izzo, though, who blocked it with his body.

An Adelaide free kick from Daniel Adlung in the 66th minute almost broke the deadlock. But Perth keeper Liam Reddy did well to keep it out.

Taggart had another good chance for Perth when left alone with Izzo after a good ball over the top from Alex Grant. Once more Izzo's fingertips denied the home team.

His heroics couldn't quite continue when in the 80th minute he was caught chasing Perth substitute Mitchell Mallia to his left. Mallia's cross got by him and Keogh got the jump on his defender to head it into the vacant goal.

Glory are back on the road at Wellington Phoenix next Sunday while Adelaide host in-form Newcastle on Saturday night.
