Daniel Salloi scores twice as Sporting Kansas City dumps Vancouver
Vancouver 1-4 Sporting KC: SKC's second half surge - Via MLS
Daniel Salloi's two goal effort led the way as Sporting KC's four second half goals were too much for the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Daniel Salloi scored the tiebreaking goal in the 82nd minute as Sporting Kansas City scored four second-half goals to post a 4-1 victory over the host Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday night.
Salloi scored a second goal right before the final whistle, and midfielder Yohan Croizet and 16-year-old forward Gianluca Busio also scored goals for Sporting Kansas City.
The victory allowed SKC to move into second place in the Western Conference based on goal difference. Kansas City and LAFC each are one point behind FC Dallas with two regular-season games remaining.
Felipe Martins scored the goal for Vancouver. The damaging defeat leaves the Whitecaps three points behind sixth-place Real Salt Lake and two points behind the LA Galaxy in the battle for the final playoff spot in the West.
Salloi scored the decisive goal after receiving a tap pass from forward Khiry Shelton. Salloi smacked the right-footed shot past Vancouver goalkeeper Stefan Marinovic.
Four minutes later, Marinovic made a stellar left-hand save on midfielder Roger Espinoza's left-footed shot to keep it a one-goal game.
Busio clinched the outcome with his tap-in in the 94th minute for his first career goal. Johnny Russell navigated toward the net and slid the ball to the wide-open youngster.
Salloi added the exclamation-point tally when he received a pass from Shelton in the 97th minute to notch his second goal of the night.
Vancouver grabbed a 1-0 edge after Felipe was alertly stationed nearby as two players went up in the air while battling for the ball in the 42nd minute. He pounced on the opportunity and sent a hard left-footed shot to the right of Sporting K.C. goalkeeper Tim Melia.
SKC knotted the score 17 minutes into the second half. Matt Besler sent a cross from the right wing into the middle of the field. Croizet moved in and delivered a hard blast into the right corner of the goal.
Earlier, SKC came up empty on two good chances in the first half. Salloi was wide right with a left-footed shot in the 13th minute, and defender Ike Opara's close-range left-footer was just wide to the right in the 27th minute.
The Whitecaps had an opportunity in the 30th minute when midfielder Brek Shea broke in free, but his left-footed chip shot was well off the mark to the left.
