FC Dallas hands Zlatan Ibrahimovic's LA Galaxy fourth straight defeat
FC Dallas 3-2 LA Galaxy: 10 men hold off Galaxy - Via MLS
Maximiliano Urruti's goal and Roland Lamah's brace gave FC Dallas the edge over LA and extended the Galaxy's losing streak to four games.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic hit the post from a late free kick and the LA Galaxy lost their fourth straight game, 3-2 at 10-man FC Dallas on Saturday.
Roland Lamah scored two goals and Mauro Diaz had three assists as FC Dallas piled the pressure on Galaxy coach Sigi Schmid.
LA has failed to earn a point since Ibrahimovic last scored on April 14 against Chicago, with subsequent defeats against Atlanta, New York and Houston.
"You can't be giving up six goals and we constantly put ourselves behind so we're constantly chasing a lead," Scmid said after the game. "The last time we were ahead was in Chicago and we won the game. It's a matter of getting on the score board first."
The forecast also got worse for the Galaxy as Jonathan Dos Santos limped out of the game early in the second half. His brother Giovani Dos Santos was also sidelined after picking up a knock in training this week.
Maximiliano Urruti rifled a right-footed shot inside the near post past a diving David Bingham to give Dallas a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. Diaz tapped it to Urruti, who dribbled around a defender and finished from well outside the area.
Lamah doubled the advantage just before halftime by slotting home a feed from Diaz. Lamah, who perfectly timed his run, slipped behind the defense and put away Diza's through-ball, which split two defenders.
The Galaxy got back into the game two minutes after the break when Ola Kamara trimmed the Galaxy's deficit to 2-1 following a corner, and LA nearly equalized a minute later when Romain Alessandrini struck the post with a blast from distance.
But Dallas doubled its lead in the 52nd minute when Lamah headed home a high cross from Diaz at the back post.
The Galaxy still had life, though, when Dallas' Reto Ziegler hauled down Alessandrini on the break and was sent off with a second yellow.
The man advantage allowed Ashley Cole cut the ball back from the endline for Emmanuel Boateng to reduce the deficit to one, before the Galaxy missed a number of chances to salvage a draw.
Ibrahimovic stepped up to a free kick at the edge of the area in the 89th minute but rocketed it off the far post.
Kamara was then denied by FCD keeper Jimmy Maurer from close range, and Michael Ciani should have scored deep into stoppage time but looped his header from eight yards over the bar.
"Disappointed because of the goals we gave up and even being down we had enough chances to equalize the game and tie the game up. We've got to defend better," Schmid said.
"We can't give up the goals we're giving up. We're not defending well enough. Defending is not just defenders, but the whole team. We're giving up soft goals and we can't be giving up soft goals."
