Minnesota United hands Sporting Kansas City 7th straight loss

Tani Oluwaseyi had a goal and an assist as Minnesota United handed Sporting Kansas City their seventh straight loss with a 3-1 victory on Saturday night in Saint Paul, Minn.

Robin Lod and Kervin Arriaga also scored for Minnesota United (8-3-4, 28 points), which bounced back from a 2-0 loss at Los Angeles FC on Wednesday to win for the fifth time in its past eight matches.

Johnny Russell scored a goal and Tim Melia finished with three saves for Sporting Kansas City (2-9-5, 11 points), which saw its winless streak extended to 10 matches.

Minnesota United took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when Oluwaseyi, alone in front of the middle of the 6-yard box, snapped in a header off a cross from the right side of the box from Bongi Hlongwane. It was Oluwaseyi's team-leading seventh goal of the season.

Oluwaseyi nearly had a brace in the 61st minute when he took a through pass from Joseph Rosales racing down the right side of the box but his right-footed shot was just wide of the far post.

Lod made it 2-0 in the 67th minute with his fifth goal of the season. Oluwaseyi set up the score with a pass from the left side of the box that Lod calmly redirected into the net with his left foot.

Arriaga increased the lead to 3-0 in the 83rd minute with his third goal of the season. He fielded a clearing header by Khiry Shelton on the right side of the box and then blasted a sharp-angled right-footed shot under Melina's arm.

Russell cut the lead to 3-1 three minutes later when he drilled a left-footed shot from outside the middle of the box past Loons goalie Dayne St. Clair and into the right corner of the net for his second goal of the season.
