Bonny, Diouf propel Inter into Coppa Italia semifinals

Inter Milan's French foreign legion fired them into the Coppa Italia semi-finals with an edgy 2-1 victory over Torino.

Ange-Yoan Bonny and Andy Diouf gave the Serie A leaders a 2-0 lead at Monza's U-Power Stadium - San Siro is out of action - and although Sandro Kulenovic pulled one back for the visitors, they could not deny the nine-time winners a 17th victory in their last 23 games in all competitions.

The hosts came desperately close to taking the lead with 20 minutes gone when Carlos Augusto rattled the crossbar from distance, but Matteo Prati sent a 31st-minute strike over Josep Martinez's bar at the other end after running on to skipper Nikola Vlasic's square ball.

However, it was Cristian Chivu's men who took the lead 10 minutes before the break when debutant Issiaka Kamate created space for himself down the right before whipping in a cross which compatriot Bonny headed firmly past Alberto Paleari.

They doubled their advantage within two minutes of the restart when Marcus Thuram pulled the ball back to hand Diouf the simplest of chances to beat the keeper.

Alieu Njie, Vlasic and Adrien Tamèze all went close in quick succession as Torino responded, and they were back in it with 57 minutes gone when Kulenovic, on loan from Dinamo Zagreb, headed Marcus Pedersen's deflected cross past Martinez for his first goal for the club.

Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi saw a 65th-minute drive beaten away with Inter re-establishing a measure of control, and although Prati saw a 74th-minute equaliser correctly ruled out for offside, Marco Baroni's men ultimately slipped to a 14th defeat in 15 games since they last beat Inter.
