      Jack Iredale's last-gasp goal seals Morton's win beat Dumbarton

      Morton kept their promotion hopes alive with a last-gasp 3-2 Scottish Championship victory over Dumbarton at Cappielow Park.The visitors, who appear increasingly consigned to the relegation play-off, took a surprise 55th-minute lead when Danny Handling fired home from Grant Gallagher's pass.The lead lasted seven minutes before Gary Fraser latched on to Scott Tiffoney's pass before equalising from 12 yards.John Baird gave Morton a 69th-minute lead, smashing the ball into the top corner of the net following Tiffoney's corner.A Thomas O'Ware own goal three minutes from time looked to have salvaged a point for Dumbarton, but Jack Iredale slotted home the winner from six yards in the third minute of stoppage time.The result leaves Dumbarton eight points adrift of Falkirk with only four games to play, while Morton lie two points off a play-off berth.

        Longridge snatches dramatic draw for Livingston

        Ten-man Livingston snatched a 1-1 draw with Morton in a dramatic finish in the Ladbrokes Championship.Morton's Scott Tiffoney and Gary Oliver had penalty appeals waved away in a goalless first half, with their side needing a sharp double save by Derek Gaston from Josh Mullin and Raffaele De Vita to stay on terms.Livingston's Shaun Byrne collected a second yellow card for a foul on Gary Harkins, who was then booked for simulation in a separate incident.Alexander parried Michael Tidser's effort and Frank Ross fired over as Morton went in search of a winner - which looked to have arrived with two minutes left when Tiffoney's cross was not cleared and Oliver pounced.There was still time for another twist, however, as Livi's Jackson Longridge blasted home from 20 yards deep into stoppage time.

          Motherwell 4-0 Greenock Morton

          Louis Moult hit his second spectacular free-kick of the season as Motherwell recorded an impressive 4-0 Betfred Cup win over 10-man Morton.Charles Dunne headed home inside three minutes of his debut and Chris Cadden's goal put Motherwell in cruise control before Gary Harkins was sent off in the 39th minute.Richard Tait added a third and Moult struck moments after coming off the bench as Motherwell made it nine goals in two Group F matches, passing and moving around the Fir Park pitch in some style.Motherwell could have scored even earlier after goalkeeper Trevor Carson's huge kick set up Craig Tanner but Derek Gaston denied him.The opener came from the resulting corner as Carl McHugh headed Tanner's delivery into the danger zone for defender Dunne to nod inside the near post.McHugh came close with a diving header from another corner by Tanner, who set up the second goal for Cadden in the 25th minute with a perfect lay-off which allowed the midfielder to slot into the corner.Morton's task became even more difficult when Harkins was shown a straight red card for a high challenge on Tanner.Gaston twice looked lively to deny Ryan Bowman and saved well from Cadden following Tanner's backheel.Motherwell were utterly dominant and Tait drilled home from 16 yards midway through the second half after McHugh's curling effort had sailed over the motionless Gaston and bounced off the bar.There was no respite for the Championship side as Stephen Robinson immediately brought on strikers Alex Fisher and Moult and the latter soon curled inside Gaston's near post from the left corner of the penalty box in the 72nd minute.Gaston made an impressive double stop from Moult and Gael Bigirimana to keep the score down.ends

            Lewis Vaughan's fourth goal of the season secured an unlikely 1-0 win for Dumbarton at home to Morton in the Scottish Championship.The visitors slipped down to third in the table after Falkirk beat Raith, after making it three matches without a win thanks to Vaughan's second-half strike.The visitors were unlucky, hitting the woodwork three times in the match. Lawrence Shankland, who was denied early on by goalkeeper Alan Martin, was the first to be denied by the bar after a rasping shot from inside the area.Andy Murdoch was next to be denied, exchanging passes with Jamie Lindsay before cracking the post, before Vaughan was fed by Ross McCrorie and finished smartly.Scott Tiffoney was the third player to be denied by the woodwork as a frustrated Morton fell to a narrow defeat.ends

              Dunfermline inflict first home league defeat on Morton in 12 months

              Dunfermline ended Morton's long unbeaten home run in the Ladbrokes Championship with a 1-0 success. The only goal came in the 16th minute when Kallum Higginbotham's corner caused problems for home keeper Derek Gaston, Nicky Clark stabbed the ball across goal and Nat Wedderburn provided the finish.Visiting keeper Sean Murdoch kept out namesake Andy's half-volley and denied Mark Russell one on one, before saving again from Gary Oliver after a well-worked free-kick.Paul McMullan wasted a good Dunfermline chance and Callum Morris had a goal disallowed for a foul on Thomas O'Ware, while Gaston brilliantly thwarted Michael Moffat.That almost allowed Ross Forbes to sneak a late equaliser but his inswinging free-kick went just wide and Morton tasted defeat at Cappielow Park, almost a year to the day after their last such result against Raith Rovers.

                Kudus Oyenuga header sees Morton edge past Falkirk

                Kudus Oyenuga headed a late winner as Morton won 1-0 at Falkirk and moved level on points with their second-placed hosts in the Scottish Championship.Substitute striker Oyenuga, a second-half replacement for Lawrence Shankland, struck the only goal late on to halt Falkirk's nine-game unbeaten league run.Shankland, plus Falkirk pair Peter Grant and John Baird, were all off target when well placed in the early stages of a goalless first half.Visiting goalkeeper Derek Gaston comfortably held Fraser Aird's shot and then Grant's header after Morton defender Thomas O'Ware had blazed over the crossbar as both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut scoring chances.Shankland headed just wide early in the second period before team-mate Ross Forbes' free-kick was superbly saved by Falkirk goalkeeper Danny Rogers.As the game headed towards the closing stages, Oyenuga broke the deadlock when he headed home Aidan Nesbitt's cross in the 79th minute.Falkirk almost hit back immediately but Nathan Austin's header hit a post and the visitors held on.

                  Ross Forbes scores only goal as Morton beat Queen of the South

                  Ross Forbes' second-half strike proved enough as Morton edged a narrow 1-0 victory over Queen of the South in an evening Championship kick-off at Cappielow Park.The hosts managed to dominate possession and had the better of the chances but were unable to break the deadlock in the opening 45 minutes despite Andy Murdoch firing narrowly wide after 22 minutes and a disallowed effort from Celtic loanee Jamie Lindsay on the half-hour.But 10 minutes after the break Forbes weaved inside from the right flank and found the top-left corner with precision strike from a tight angle for his 12th goal of the season.Motherwell loanee Dom Thomas came closest to claiming an equaliser for the visitors on the hour but his effort was blocked as the Ton held on to move above Dundee United into third, with their opponents 10 points further back in fifth.
