Frazier's career night helps Tulane beat SE Louisiana 89-66
NEW ORLEANS -- Melvin Frazier had his first career double-double and Blake Paul scored 10 points and tied a school record with eight blocked shots to help Tulane beat Southeastern Louisiana 89-66 on Monday night.
Frazier finished with 25 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, with a career-high 10 rebounds and five assists. Ray Ona Embo scored 14 points, Cameron Reynolds added 13 and Samir Sehic 12 for Tulane (2-0).
Frazier hit a 3 and made a layup during a 14-4 run to open the game that was capped by a dunk by Ona Embo about five minutes in and the Green Wave never trailed. Reynolds converted a 3-point play to make it 33-18, but the Lions trimmed their deficit to five points on James Currington's layup with 13 seconds left in the half. Frazier answered with a 3 to make it 44-36 at the break.
Reynolds hit a jumper and then Frazier made another 3-pointer to open the second half and Tulane led by double figures the rest of the way.
Marlain Veal led Southeastern Louisiana (1-1) with 26 points. The Lions hit just 23 of 65 (35 percent) field-goal attempts and 14 of 28 free throws.
Tulane shot 60 percent (31 of 52) from the field.
