Moe's last-second putback seals win for UT Rio Grande Valley
EDINBURG, Texas -- Nick Dixon and Lesley Varner Jr. scored 14 apiece and Moe McDonald grabbed an offensive rebound and scored with a second left to send UT Rio Grande Valley to a 68-66 victory over CSU Bakersfield on Saturday night.
Javon Levi added 13 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Vaqueros (14-12, 5-4 Western Athletic Conference), who couldn't find their shooting touch except at the free-throw line where they hit 21 of 27 attempts (78 percent).
The Roadrunners (10-15, 3-7) trailed 64-58 with 1:54 remaining when Damiyne Durham sank a 3-pointer. After Dixon made 1 of 2 free throws, Justin Davis buried a 3 to pull Bakersfield within a point. Levi hit 1 of 2 free throws to push the lead to two, but Rickey Holden's layup tied it at 66 with 22 seconds left. Dixon missed a 3 with four seconds left, but McDonald was there for the putback basket.
Durham hit 6 of 12 from 3-point range and scored 26 to pace the Roadrunners. Jarkel Joiner added 12 points and six rebounds, while Holden scored 10.
