Lyles leads UMBC past UNH 68-59 despite Leissner's record
DURHAM, N.H. -- Jairus Lyles scored 18 points, Jourdan Grant added 14 and UMBC won at New Hampshire for the first time in six years, 68-59, on Sunday.
The Retrievers (18-8, 9-3 American East), down two at halftime, made 12 of 21 field goals (67 percent), including their last six, and 14 of 20 free throws in the second half while limiting the Wildcats (10-16, 6-6) to 31 percent from the field and 4 of 7 from the line.
Tanner Leissner had 16 points and moved past Al McClain (1980-84) to become New Hampshire's all-time leading scorer with 1,882 points. He set the school record for minutes played in the last game and is at 3,908 minutes. Leissner, a 6-foot-7 senior forward from Converse, Texas, also holds UNH's record for career free throws made (510) and attempted (659).
Grant hit a 3-pointer with 7:17 to play to start a 16-4 run for a 61-52 lead at the 1:55 mark.
