Morse's 3-pointer with 0.6 left gives Penguins 80-77 victory
CLEVELAND -- Cameron Morse answered Bobby Word's 3-pointer with a long, contested one of his own with 0.6 seconds remaining, giving Youngstown State its first Division-I victory of the season, 80-77 over Cleveland State in a Horizon League opener on Monday.
Word tied the game for the Vikings with nine seconds left with his fifth trey but Morse made his third from the arc for the Penguins' first road win after six losses.
The Penguins never trailed and had their largest lead of 16 with 4:43 left in the first half, which ended 43-32. They clung to the lead through the second half before Word got the Vikings within a point on a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining then hit his tying trey after YSU's Garrett Covington got his only points of the game with two free throws.
Braun Hartfield made four 3-pointers and scored 22 points for YSU (3-11), which shot 56 percent in snapping a nine-game losing streak. Morse finished with 13 points and 11 assists.
Word scored 24 points for the Vikings (3-11), who have lost five straight.
