Robb scores 20 to lead Niagara over Canisius 86-84

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Dominic Robb had 20 points as Niagara narrowly beat Canisius 86-84 on Wednesday night.

Robb's jumper gave the Purple Eagles an 84-82 lead with 18 seconds to go. After a turnover by Scott Hitchon, the Golden Griffins fouled Robb and he made both free throws for a four-point lead. Malik Johnson made a jumper for Canisius as time ran out.

Marcus Hammond had 18 points and seven rebounds for Niagara (13-17, 6-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference), which snapped its four-game road losing streak. James Towns added 11 points. Chris Barton had 10 points for the visitors.

Takal Molson scored a career-high 28 points and had nine rebounds for the Golden Griffins (13-16, 10-7). Johnson added 15 points. Jonathan Sanks had 13 points.

Canisius entered the game as one of five teams with six losses in the conference. Iona leads at 11-6, followed by Quinnipiac, Rider and Siena, all at 10-6. Canisius fell to fifth place.

Both teams take on Siena the next time they take the floor. Canisius plays host to the Saints on Friday. Niagara heads home for its matchup against Siena on Sunday.
