Cockfield lifts Arkansas State over FAU 75-71 in 2OT

JONESBORO, Ark. -- Ty Cockfield hit the free throws that forced a second overtime and scored nine of his 34 points in the second OT to help Arkansas State get past Florida Atlantic 75-71 on Friday night.

The Red Wolves (4-6) trailed by five with 2 1/2 minutes left in the first overtime but closed the period with a 5-0 run capped by Cockfield's pair of free throws with one second left.

Cockfield scored the opening basket of the second overtime and gave Arkansas State the lead for good at 70-68 with 58 seconds left. The Red Wolves pushed the lead to five, Michael Forrest's 3-pointer for FAU cut the deficit back to two and Cockfield iced the victory with a pair of free throws to cap the scoring with seven seconds left.

Anthony Adger scored five of his 21 points in the first overtime to give FAU (7-3) a 63-58 lead with 3:11 left in the period.

Both teams shot 29 percent from the field. FAU missed 15 straight shots in the middle of the second half and Arkansas State had a string of 16 missed shots stretching into first overtime.
