Wiggins' putback at buzzer lifts Bowling Green over Hampton
DETROIT -- Justin Turner scored 21 points and Demajeo Wiggins had a putback at the buzzer to help Bowling Green beat Hampton 81-79 on Monday night in a sub-regional game of the Legends Classic.
Wiggins finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds -- his fifth double-double this season -- and Michael Laster, a juco transfer who came in with 21 total points this season, added 15 points and four steals. Daeqwon Plowden tied his career highs with 11 points and eight rebounds for Bowling Green (3-2).
Turner made three consecutive layups -- the last of which gave the Falcons their first lead since 4-2 -- during an 11-1 run that made it 77-73 when he hit Antwon Lillard for a jumper with 1:01 to play. Kalin Fisher hit a 3-pointer seven seconds later and, after a BGSU turnover, his jumper with 22 seconds left made it 79-all. Turner missed a jumper and Lillard grabbed the offensive rebound but his putback missed before Wiggins' winning tipin.
Jermaine Morrow led Hampton (1-3) with 29 points, including five 3-pointers, and six assists.
