Reese, Young lead Maryland to 105-65 romp over Alcorn State

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- — Julian Reese had 15 points and seven rebounds, Jahmir Young scored 13 with seven assists and Maryland cruised to a 105-65 victory over Alcorn State on Tuesday night.

Reese made 3 of 7 shots and 9 of 12 free throws for the Terrapins (6-4), who extended their win streak at home to 17. Young made 3 of 7 shots with a 3-pointer and all six of his free throws. Freshmen Deshawn Harris-Smith and Jamie Kaiser Jr. along with Jordan Geronimo scored 12 points each. Harris-Smith added five assists and three steals. Freshman reserve Jahnathan Lamothe hit two 3s and scored 10.

Kaiser came off the bench to hit two 3, scoring nine points to lead Maryland to a 47-33 advantage at halftime. Young added six points and five assists as the Terrapins closed out the half with a 17-8 run. Maryland was 6 for 11 from 3-point range in the first half, while the Braves shot 50% but made just 1 of 3 from distance.

Byron Joshua had 14 points to lead the Braves (1-9), who have lost eight straight — all on the road. Dekedran Thorn scored 13 and Stephen Byard added 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.

Maryland was coming off an 81-75 overtime victory over Penn State. The Terrapins have won 14 in a row at home in Big Ten Conference play.

Next up for Maryland is a home game against Nicholls on Dec. 19. Alcorn State travels to play Northern Iowa on Sunday and will play five more road games before returning home to host Texas Southern on Jan. 20.
