Standings
ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Texas Rangers play their final game this afternoon against the Anaheim Angels before opening the American League Division Series.
Texas has achieved its highest win total in franchise history and its just the second time in the 1990's it has won at least 90 games. The Rangers had 90 victories in 1996. Despite winning four straight, Anaheim will post its lowest win total in a non-strike year since notching 65 victories in 1980. Jeff Fassero (5-14, 7.24 ERA) starts for the Rangers. He pitched just four scoreless innings Tuesday against Seattle due to a pitch limit, allowing one hit and four walks. He has not lost a start since August 6 against the New York Yankees. Fassero is 1-0 in two starts against Anaheim this season, allowing three runs and nine hits over 14 innings. Rookie Jarrod Washburn (3-5, 6.11) counters for the Angels. He lost for the second time in three starts Tuesday, yielding four runs and six hits over 4 1/3 innings to Oakland. Washburn has been victorious in three of his last five starts. Washburn pitched two innings of relief against the Rangers on July 22, giving up one and one hits over two innings. He is making his first start against Texas.
