Minnesota suffered its seventh straight loss Saturday, 6-1, and
is one-half game behind the Florida Marlins and Kansas City
Royals for the worst record in the majors. The Twins' losing streak is their longest since dropping 10 in a
row from September 9-19, 1998. Left-hander Eric Milton (7-11, 4.58 ERA) goes after his first
win since pitching a no-hitter against Anaheim on September 11.
He has three no-decisions since his masterpiece but
pitched well in his last start, allowing two runs and five hits
over seven innings against Detroit.
Milton gave up three runs and nine hits over seven innings in a
no-decision against Chicago on July 21. Chicago has won four straight and seven of its last eight but
can do no better than finish four games behind last season's
80-82 finish. Tanyon Sturtze (NR) makes his first major league appearance in
over two years for the White Sox. The 28-year-old righthander
last appeared in the majors for Texas on August 18, 1997.
Sturtze, who also pitched for the Chicago Cubs, is 2-1 with an
8.47 ERA in 17 major league games. Sturtze was hit hard in Game Five of the Triple-A World Series
last week.
