Dickinson powers Squadron to win over Vipers

The Birmingham Squadron set a new season high for points (as well as their second-highest point total in franchise history) in their 142-111 win over the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Tuesday at Legacy Arena. 

Hunter Dickinson led the charge for the Squadron (5-9) with 27 points, 19 rebounds and eight assists. Dickinson was exceptionally efficient from long range, making 5 of 6 3-point attempts. The Squadron's bench provided a major spark, led by D.J. Carton who scored 25 points and added eight assists. Trey Alexander (19 points), Christian Shumate (18 points, 11 rebounds), Josh Oduro (17 points) and Keion Brooks Jr. (14) also contributed for Birmingham.

The Vipers (7-7) were led by Efe Abogidi, who posted 20 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Cameron Matthews scored 18 points, including four 3-pointers, and the Vipers also received significant scoring from their reserves, with both Ricky Council IV and Tyrese Hunter scoring 17 points each. Teddy Allen, who entered the game as one of the league's top scorers, was held to 12 points on 4-for-11 shooting, while Daishen Nix chipped in with 10 points.

Birmingham dominated the glass, outrebounding the Vipers by a staggering 60-21 margin. Their offense was firing on all cylinders, hitting 22 3-pointers from eight different players. The team also shared the ball effectively, finishing the contest with 39 assists on 55 made field goals.

Up next: The Vipers face the Westchester Knicks on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. ET, while the Squadron take on the Iowa Wolves at 7:30 p.m. Both games, part of the G League Winter Showcase, will be played in Orlando, Florida.
