Kinsey, Bassey lead Warriors' 16-point comeback win over Squadron
The Santa Cruz Warriors rallied to overcome a 16-point second-half deficit and defeat the Birmingham Squadron 121-117 at Kaiser Permanente Arena on Wednesday night.
Taevion Kinsey paced the Warriors (13-12) with 27 points on 10-for-18 shooting, adding four rebounds and four assists. Charles Bassey was a dominant force inside, recording a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Chance McMillian orchestrated the offense with 21 points and a team-high seven assists, while Marques Bolden provided a strong defensive presence with 17 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Jack Clark also contributed nine points, hitting two crucial 3-pointers in the fourth quarter.
Jaden Springer led all scorers with 28 points on 12-for-18 shooting for the Squadron, whose record fell to 10-18. Birmingham had six players score in double figures, including Christian Shumate, who had 18 points and seven rebounds from off the bench. Trey Alexander and Josh Oduro each chipped in 17 points, while D.J. Carton added 14 points and five assists.
Birmingham appeared to be in control, building a 65-51 lead by halftime. However, Santa Cruz mounted a furious rally, outscoring the Squadron 36-25 in the third quarter to close the gap.
