Knecht scores 30 as South Bay Lakers top San Diego Clippers
The South Bay Lakers defeated the San Diego Clippers 127-118 on Tuesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo. Dalton Knecht led a balanced Lakers attack with 30 points to close out the G League Tip-Off Tournament.
The South Bay Lakers (7-7) had six players score in double figures, paced by Knecht on assignment from the Los Angeles Lakers. Knecht was efficient from long range, shooting 6-for-10 on 3-pointers while also grabbing five rebounds. Nick Smith Jr. provided a significant scoring punch with 20 points, hitting four 3-pointers and dishing out three assists. Off the bench, Chris Manon was a defensive force, contributing 20 points, five rebounds and a game-high four steals. Kobe Bufkin added 15 points, Drew Timme posted a well-rounded line of 14 points, six rebounds, and a team-high six assists, and Adou Thiero chipped in with 14 points and seven boards.
For the San Diego Clippers (9-5), RayJ Dennis had a standout performance off the bench, leading all scorers with 28 points on 8-for-17 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Dennis also added five rebounds and five assists in the losing effort. Patrick Baldwin Jr. was another key contributor for the Clippers, scoring 27 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals.
San Diego also received solid contributions from several other players. Cam Christie finished with 13 points and five assists, while center Yanic Konan Niederhauser recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Forward Taylor Funk was perfect from beyond the arc, scoring 11 points on 3-for-3 shooting from 3-point range.
