Dennis scores 26 in debut as Skyhawks defeat Squadron

The College Park Skyhawks defeated the Birmingham Squadron 107-83 at Gateway Center Arena in College Park on Thursday, splitting their two-game series. RayJ Dennis, in his first game with the Skyhawks after signing a two-way contract, led all scorers with 26 points to help College Park snap a four-game losing streak.

The Skyhawks (2-4) received contributions from across the roster. Kobe Johnson provided an all-around performance with 15 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Caleb Houstan connected on four 3-pointers on his way to 14 points. The College Park bench was a significant factor, outscoring Birmingham's reserves 43-27, led by Seth Maxwell, who scored 12 points, and Nikola Durisic, who added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Malik Williams controlled the glass, pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.

For the Squadron (3-3), Hunter Dickinson recorded a double-double, with 22 points and 12 rebounds, but he also committed seven turnovers. Keion Brooks Jr. added 17 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Chase Hunter contributed 12 points and seven assists, and D.J. Carton had eight assists but struggled from the field, shooting just 1-for-12.

College Park broke the game open with a dominant second quarter, outscoring Birmingham 39-20 to take a 56-33 lead into halftime. The Skyhawks controlled the boards with a 54-48 rebounding advantage, including 14 offensive rebounds that led to 14 second-chance points. Birmingham struggled with its perimeter shooting, making just nine of its 37 attempts from 3-point range. After being significantly outscored in points in the paint in their previous meeting, the Skyhawks held their own, matching the Squadron with 30 points each in that category.
