Figueroa, Bouknight each score 20 as Capitanes top Legends
James Bouknight and LJ Figueroa led Mexico City with 20 points each as the Capitanes defeated the Texas Legends 122-109 on Tuesday at the Mexico City Arena. The Capitanes overcame a three-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Legends 66-50 in the second half.
Mexico City (5-2) showcased a balanced offensive attack with seven players scoring in double figures. Bouknight also contributed seven rebounds, while Figueroa shot an efficient 8-for-12 from the field. The offense was directed by guards Ahmad Caver and Boo Buie, who each recorded eight assists. Caver finished with 19 points, and Buie added 12 points. Off the bench, Felipe Haase was a key contributor from the perimeter, hitting four 3-pointers en route to 12 points and six rebounds, while Andersson Garcia provided 13 points, three rebounds and two blocks.
For Texas (2-6), Miles Kelly put up a game-high 23 points, connecting on three 3-pointers. Dalano Banton had a strong all-around performance, finishing with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds. The Legends had four other players reach double-digit scoring. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl posted 15 points and four rebounds. Jordan Hall scored 12 points, hitting four 3-pointers, and added seven rebounds. And Sheldon Edwards Jr. and Mark Armstrong chipped in with 12 points apiece. Center Moussa Cisse was a dominant presence on the boards, grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with his eight points.
The game was tightly contested through the first half, with the Legends taking a 59-56 lead into the locker room. However, the Capitanes seized control in the third quarter, outscoring Texas 33-20 to build a lead they would not relinquish. Mexico City continued its offensive push in the fourth quarter, adding another 33 points to improve its home record to 3-0.
