Thompson scores 33, Abdur-Rahim hits winner as Blue stun Suns in overtime
The Oklahoma City Blue defeated the Valley Suns 114-109 in overtime on Tuesday night in Tempe, Arizona, overcoming a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to earn a road victory.
Oklahoma City erased the deficit by outscoring the Suns 38-25 in the final period of regulation to force the extra frame.
Bryce Thompson led the charge for Oklahoma City (2-6), scoring a game-high 33 points on 14-of-24 shooting against his former team. Jabri Abdur-Rahim scored all seven of the Blue's points in the extra period, including a four-point play and the winning 3-pointer to reach the target score. He finished with 22 points and five rebounds. Zhaire Smith provided an all-around performance with 26 points, nine assists and six steals. Manny Obaseki contributed 12 points and eight rebounds, while Kyle Rose added 12 points off the bench for the short-handed Blue, who dressed only eight players for the contest.
The Suns (2-4) were led by Jaden Shackelford, who posted 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and four rebounds. Koby Brea added 19 points, connecting on five shots from beyond the arc. Damion Baugh, who sent the game into overtime with two clutch free throws with 12.2 seconds left in regulation, finished with 15 points and eight rebounds. Alex Schumacher scored 15 points off the bench, and CJ Huntley chipped in 10 points and four rebounds.
The Suns appeared to be in control after outscoring the Blue 34-24 in the third quarter to take an 82-69 lead into the final period. However, Oklahoma City stormed back, fueled by Thompson's scoring, to tie the score at 107. In the untimed overtime period with a target score of 114, Abdur-Rahim took over, capping the improbable comeback for the Blue.
