Williams scores 20 as Nets hold off Go-Go in thriller
Nate Williams led a balanced attack for the Nets with a team-high 20 points as Long Island defeated the Capital City Go-Go 104-101 on Wednesday night at CareFirst Arena in Washington. The Nets outscored the opposition 32-22 in the fourth quarter to overcome a double-digit deficit in the third.
Malachi Smith delivered a stellar all-around performance for Long Island (5-5) by contributing 18 points, a team-high 8 assists and a game-high 7 steals. E.J. Liddell was a force in the frontcourt, finishing with 17 points, a team-high 9 rebounds and 2 blocks, while Ben Saraf added 14 points and 4 assists. Hunter Cattoor provided key scoring off the bench with 8 points, hitting both of his three-point attempts.
Capital City (5-3) was paced by Leaky Black, who scored a team-high 20 points on remarkable efficiency, connecting on 6 of his 7 three-point attempts. Point guard Sharife Cooper nearly recorded a triple-double with 18 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Skal Labissiere chipped in with 11 points and 5 rebounds. In his first game back from an extended absence, Alondes Williams provided a significant spark off the bench in scoring 18 points and dishing out 7 assists, and Akoldah Gak added 12 points with the second unit.
After a closely contested first half, the Go-Go appeared to take control in the third quarter, using an 18-0 run to help build a lead as large as 13 points. However, the Nets weathered the storm and mounted a decisive comeback in the final period.
