Hansen, Jones lead Remix past Blue
The Rip City Remix defeated the Oklahoma City Blue 123-99 on Wednesday night at the Chiles Center in Portland. After trailing at the end of the first quarter, the Remix used a strong finish to the first half and a dominant second half to pull away for the victory.
Seven players scored in double figures for the Remix (5-5), led by Yang Hansen's 22. The Portland Trail Blazers assignment player also had 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Dillon Jones stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and 7 assists. Javonte Cooke contributed 19 points and eight rebounds, while Blake Hinson hit six 3-pointers on his way to 18 points. Guard Sean Pedulla added 17 points and six assists. Off the bench, Jayson Kent and Romeo Weems scored 11 points apiece.
Brooks Barnhizer paced the short-handed Oklahoma City Blue (2-8) with a double-double, scoring a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds. The Blue, who dressed only eight players because of a number of injuries, also received 15 points and five assists from Dariq Whitehead. Jabri Abdur-Rahim scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers. Payton Sandfort and Bryce Thompson each chipped in with 12 points, while Zhaire Smith finished with 10 points, 6 assists and 4 steals.
Oklahoma City held a 32-26 lead after the first quarter, but the Remix closed the second quarter on an 18-4 run to take a 62-58 lead into halftime. Rip City extended its lead in the third, outscoring the Blue 29-23, and cruised in the final period to secure the 24-point win. The teams will have a rematch in Portland on Friday.
