The Grand Rapids Gold defeated the Noblesville Boom 102-92 on Thursday night at The Arena at Innovation Mile. Grand Rapids seized control with a dominant third quarter in which it outscored host Noblesville 31-16, then held off a fourth-quarter rally by the Gold to win.
The Gold (5-6) were led by a strong all-around performance from two-way guard Curtis Jones, who finished with 26 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals. Jones connected on five 3-pointers to lead the offensive charge. Dane Goodwin contributed 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and Moses Brown pulled down 11 rebounds and added eight points in his return from injury. Javante McCoy (19 points on 8-for-13 shooting) and Justyn Hamilton (12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks) provided sparks off the bench.
For the Boom (4-6), Ethan Thompson led all scorers with 25 points, adding eight rebounds and hitting four 3-pointers in the second half. Kam Jones registered a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 10 assists, and also collected seven rebounds and four steals. Taelon Peter and Jalen Slawson also finished in double figures for Noblesville, with each scoring 14 points. Peter was effective from long range, making four of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
The contest was tightly contested through the first 24 minutes, with Noblesville taking a narrow 47-45 lead into the halftime break. However, the Gold's third-quarter surge created a 76-63 advantage heading into the final period. Noblesville mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter, cutting the deficit to just two points with under six minutes remaining, but Grand Rapids responded with key baskets from Goodwin and McCoy down the stretch to secure the road victory and snap a two-game losing streak.
