Cruise use strong second half to defeat Squadron 109-94
The Motor City Cruise defeated the Birmingham Squadron 109-94 on Thursday night at Legacy Arena, using a dominant second half to pull away for the victory. After being tied at the end of the first quarter and trailing by one at halftime, the Cruise outscored the Squadron 57-41 in the second half to secure the win.
Six players scored in double figures for the Cruise (4-7). Isaac Jones paced the team with 23 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks. Tolu Smith recorded a double-double with 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Chaz Lanier also scored 18 points, connecting on four 3-pointers. Drew Peterson contributed 15 points, while John Ukomadu provided a spark off the bench with 14 points and eight rebounds. Bobi Klintman rounded out the effort with 12 points and seven boards for Motor City, which has won two consecutive games.
Jaden Springer led the Squadron (4-9) with 23 points to go along with seven assists and five 3-pointers. Center Hunter Dickinson secured his 13th double-double of the season, finishing with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Josh Oduro added 14 points and six rebounds. Other double-digit scorers for Birmingham included Chase Hunter, who had 12 points, seven assists and four steals, and Johnny O'Neil, who came off the bench to score 12 points, all from beyond the arc.
Birmingham came out firing from distance, setting a new team record with 13 made 3-pointers in the first half to take a 53-52 halftime lead. However, the momentum shifted after the break. Motor City clamped down defensively and outscored the Squadron 30-18 in the third quarter for a double-digit advantage heading into the fourth.
