King hits buzzer-beater, Spurs edge Stars 120-118
Tre King hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Austin Spurs a 120-118 victory over the Salt Lake City Stars on Thursday night in West Valley City. The dramatic finish completed a two-game sweep for the Spurs and handed the Stars their fifth consecutive loss.
The Spurs (5-4) were powered by a dynamic performance from Kyle Mangas, who scored a team-high 28 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Mangas was lethal from long range, hitting six of his eight 3-point attempts, and also contributed five steals and four assists. John Tonje added 17 points, and Matthew Cleveland had a successful debut, scoring 11 points on a perfect 5-for-5 from the field. Max Abmas chipped in with 11 points and five assists.
The game was a back-and-forth contest throughout. After trailing 59-50 at halftime, the Stars mounted a comeback, outscoring the Spurs 39-30 in the third quarter to enter the final period tied at 89. The lead changed hands multiple times in the fourth quarter before Tshiebwe tied the score at 118 with two free throws with 28 seconds remaining. On the final possession, Ingram secured an offensive rebound off a missed shot and passed to King, who connected on the 3-pointer as time expired.
