Colby Jones scores 25 off bench to power Hustle over Legends
Colby Jones scored 25 points off the bench, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Memphis Hustle to a 135-113 victory over the Texas Legends on Tuesday night at the Landers Center in Southaven, Mississippi.
After trailing by one at the end of the first quarter, the Hustle dominated the remainder of the game to secure the win.
Jones was 10-for-16 from the field, including 5-for-9 from 3-point range, in his home debut for the Hustle (6-21). The Memphis bench was a significant factor, outscoring the Texas reserves 60-9. Fellow reserve Pierre Crockrell II added 14 points and seven assists, and Lance Terry scored 13. In total, seven Memphis players scored in double figures. Orlando Robinson contributed 18 points and six rebounds in his first game with the team, DeJon Jarreau had 18 points and six rebounds, Tyler Burton scored 16, and Eric Dixon finished with 14. The Hustle controlled the transition game, outscoring the Legends 33-15 in fast-break points.
Dalano Banton led all scorers with 37 points for the Legends (6-19), who have lost nine consecutive games. Mark Armstrong scored 22 points and dished out six assists. Jeremiah Robinson-Earl recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Jamarion Sharp also posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds along with four blocks. D'Moi Hodge was the only other Legends player in double figures with 11 points.
Texas held a 39-38 lead after a high-scoring first quarter, but Memphis seized control by outscoring the Legends 31-15 in the second quarter to take a 69-54 halftime lead. The Hustle shot an efficient 16-for-30 (53.3%) from 3-point range and dominated inside with 72 points in the paint.
