Wheeler, Morales lead Magic past Skyforce in overtime thriller
The Osceola Magic defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce 113-106 in overtime Tuesday night in Kissimmee, Florida. The game was sent to an extra period after being tied at 106-106 at the end of regulation.
Phillip Wheeler led the way for the victorious Magic (18-7), scoring 27 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including six 3-pointers. Alex Morales was a force, recording a double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds while also dishing out five assists. Several other players made key contributions, with Lester Quinones scoring 15 points off the bench. Javonte Smart added 12 points, Jarron Cumberland had 11, and William Baker posted 10 points, nine rebounds and three blocks. Reece Beekman had a team-high eight assists.
For the Skyforce (14-13), Trevor Keels scored a team-high 24 points and connected on five 3-pointers. Josh Christopher had 23 points, six rebounds and six assists. Dennis Smith Jr. contributed 15 points and five assists. Keshad Johnson finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dain Dainja scored 12 points, while Vladislav Goldin added 11 points and four blocks in the loss.
The contest was close throughout, with the teams tied at 26 after the first quarter and 60-60 at halftime. Sioux Falls built an eight-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but Osceola rallied, outscoring the Skyforce 23-15 in the final frame to force the extra session. The Magic dominated the overtime period, shutting out the Skyforce 7-0 to secure the comeback win.
