Gray's historic night, clutch 3 lift shorthanded Celtics past Skyhawks 121-115
The Maine Celtics defeated the College Park Skyhawks 121-115 on Wednesday night at Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia. Maine, playing without its three two-way players, built a 26-point lead and withstood a furious fourth-quarter comeback from College Park, sealed by a clutch Hayden Gray 3-pointer in the final minute.
Gray delivered a historic performance for the shorthanded Celtics (8-5), flirting with a quadruple-double with 23 points, 11 assists, eight rebounds and eight steals. His eight steals tied the franchise single-game record. Gray hit the 25-foot step-back 3-pointer with 13 seconds remaining to give the Celtics a five-point lead and halt the Skyhawks' rally. Stefan Todorovic matched Gray with a team-high 23 points. The Celtics saw all eight of their available players score in double figures, with Tosan Evbuomwan recording 15 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, and Pedro Bradshaw adding 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.
The Skyhawks (4-10) were led by Asa Newell, who posted a double-double with a game-high 29 points and 12 rebounds. RayJ Dennis, who had 21 points, sparked the fourth-quarter rally. Dennis finished with seven assists, six rebounds and five three-pointers. Kobe Johnson contributed 18 points, six rebounds and six assists, and Basheer Jihad added 16 points and seven rebounds.
College Park trailed 98-78 entering the fourth quarter before mounting a run to pull within 112-111 with 1:20 left to play. The Skyhawks were ultimately undone by 21 turnovers. Hason Ward (13 points, nine rebounds), Jalen Bridges (11 points), Aaron Scott (11 points) and Kameron Warrens (10 points) rounded out the scoring for Maine.
