Ousmane's game winner lifts Hustle past Stars 117-116 in overtime
Abou Ousmane scored the game-winning layup in the extra frame as the Memphis Hustle survived a furious fourth-quarter comeback by the Salt Lake City Stars to win 117-116 on Wednesday night at Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah. The victory snapped an eight-game losing streak for the Hustle.
Nate Hinton led the way for Memphis (2-10) with 21 points and five rebounds. Ousmane finished with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting and 10 rebounds. Jahmai Mashack, who scored the tying layup with 12 seconds left in regulation, finished with 14 points and a team-high seven assists. The Hustle also received key bench contributions from DeJon Jarreau, who had 14 points and five assists, and Paul Watson, who added 13 points.
In his return to the Stars (5-8) after a stint in the NBA with the Toronto Raptors, Mo Bamba had a game-high 24 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocks. Salt Lake City's offense was bolstered by its bench, with Max Abmas scoring 19 points and hitting four 3-pointers, and Justin Harmon adding 14 points. Sean East II had 14 points and six assists, and Matthew Murrell scored 13.
Salt Lake City controlled the game early, building a lead that grew to as many as nine points at the end of the first quarter. However, Memphis stormed back, outscoring the Stars 76-51 in the second and third quarters to take a 16-point lead into the final frame. The Stars responded with a 33-17 fourth quarter to send the game to overtime with the score knotted at 110.
Up next: Both teams are back in action with road games Saturday. The Hustle face the Iowa Wolves at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the Stars visit the Kings at 8 p.m.
