Jamaree Bouyea scores 27 as Valley Suns knock off Stockton Kings
The Valley Suns used a strong start to the second half and a clutch late-game performance from Jamaree Bouyea to defeat the Stockton Kings 117-111 at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona, on Wednesday night.
The victory ended a four-game losing streak for the Suns and also ended Stockton's six-game winning streak.
All five starters for the Valley Suns (4-8) scored in double figures, led by Bouyea who posted 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Khaman Maluach had a double-double with 23 points and 11 rebounds while hitting two 3-pointers. Rasheer Fleming contributed an efficient 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Koby Brea added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, and Damion Baugh contributed 13 points and a team-high seven assists.
The Stockton Kings (8-4) were paced by DaQuan Jeffries and Dexter Dennis, who each scored 24 points. Dennis connected on four 3-pointers, while Jeffries shot 10-for-17 from the field. Mitch Mascari provided a spark off the bench, scoring 18 points, all on 3-pointers. Gabe Levin secured a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and guard Isaiah Stevens finished with 10 points and eight assists.
The Suns opened the second half on an 18-0 run to build a 75-55 lead, but the Kings answered with a 22-8 run to close the period and cut the deficit to 85-82 heading into the fourth. The final quarter remained tight until Bouyea scored consecutive baskets to give the Suns an eight-point lead with 1:17 left. The Kings cut it to three at 112-109 with 15 seconds left, but the Suns made five of six free throws in the final 14 seconds to pull away.
