Capitanes defeat Lakers with balanced offense
The Mexico City Capitanes defeated the South Bay Lakers 123-113 on Thursday night at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California. The Capitanes never trailed.
The Capitanes (12-3) had eight players score in double figures, led by Boo Buie with 19 points. He also recorded eight assists. Off the bench, LJ Figueroa scored 17 points and Wade Taylor IV added 16. Starting guards Ahmad Caver and James Bouknight contributed 16 and 14 points, respectively. Bouknight also tallied five rebounds and five assists. Other key contributors included Tomas Chapero with 12 points, RJ Melendez with 11 and Felipe Haase, who finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
Guards Nick Smith Jr. and Chris Manon each scored a game-high 25 points for the Lakers (5-6). Smith also dished nine assists, while Manon added four rebounds and four assists. The Lakers' bench was also productive, with RJ Davis scoring 21 points on 7-for-10 shooting and Arthur Kaluma contributing 20 points and eight rebounds. Center Kylor Kelley had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Capitanes established their dominance early and withstood several rallies by the Lakers, who trailed by as many as 16 points in the first half. The loss was the Lakers' third straight and just their second at home this season.
