Moore, Cruise bench dominate Hustle in revenge win
Wendell Moore Jr. led the way for Motor City with 23 points as the Cruise defeated Memphis 135-105 on Tuesday night at Wayne State Fieldhouse, avenging a loss to the Hustle from two nights earlier to secure a split in their series in Detroit.
Moore shot an efficient 7-of-8 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line for Motor City (10-9). The team received a combined 66 points from the bench, as Drew Peterson nearly recorded a triple-double with 21 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds, Brice Williams added 15 points while making all three of his 3-point attempts, and John Ukomadu scored 11 points. Rookie Jaden Akins, who recently was named a G League All-Star, chipped in 12 points and four assists, while Chaz Lanier put up 15 points and Bobi Klintman scored 11. The team collectively dished out 32 assists in the victory.
Tyler Burton paced Memphis (3-13) with a game-high 25 points and three rebounds. Nate Hinton provided a spark off the bench, scoring 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Charlie Brown Jr. finished with 16 points, and center Lawson Lovering posted a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four assists and four blocks. Pierre Crockrell II added eight points and seven assists for the short-handed Hustle, who played with only eight active players.
Up next: The Hustle will host the San Diego Clippers on Friday at 8 p.m. ET, and Cruise will visit the Raptors 905 on Sunday at 2 p.m.
