Toney scores 30 as short-handed Boom fend off Nets
Au'Diese Toney led all scorers with 30 points to fuel the short-handed Noblesville Boom past the Long Island Nets 121-117 on Tuesday night at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, to earn a split in their two-game series.
Toney added eight rebounds for Noblesville (12-8), which had only eight available players dressed for the contest. DaJuan Gordon contributed 22 points, including four 3-pointers. Jalen Slawson finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and a game-high five blocks. MJ Iraldi came off the bench to post 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, while Samson Johnson chipped in 12 points for the second unit.
Nate Williams paced Long Island (12-9) with 25 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Tyson Etienne hit five 3-pointers in scoring 23 points. Malachi Smith recorded 18 points and a game-high 11 assists, while Grant Nelson added 10 points and four blocks. Chaney Johnson provided 20 points and six rebounds in a reserve role.
Noblesville, playing without its three two-way players due to NBA call-ups, used a blistering first half to take a 71-61 lead into the break. The Boom extended their advantage to as many as 15 points early in the third quarter before the Nets mounted a comeback. Long Island went on a 23-6 run, capped by an Etienne 3-pointer, to take an 84-82 lead late in the third. The Boom ultimately sealed the victory at the free throw line in the final minute.
Up next: The Boom will host the College Park Skyhawks on Thursday at 11 a.m. ET, while the Nets will play at the Delaware Blue Coats, also at 11 a.m.
