Alexander's season-high 35 points lead Squadron past Herd
Trey Alexander scored a season-high 35 points to lead the Birmingham Squadron to a 124-110 victory over the Wisconsin Herd on Tuesday night in Oshkosh as the Squadron swept the two-game series and handed the Herd their fifth consecutive loss.
Alexander nearly recorded a triple-double for Birmingham (8-15), adding nine assists and seven rebounds. Christian Shumate and Johnny O'Neil each scored 20 points off the bench, with Shumate also pulling down eight rebounds. Starters Hunter Dickinson finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Josh Oduro contributed 14 points and 10 rebounds.
Mark Sears paced the Herd (7-14) with a team-high 33 points, connecting on eight of 14 attempts from 3-point range. Cormac Ryan hit six 3-pointers and finished with 20 points. Kira Lewis Jr. added 17 points and six rebounds, and Stephen Thompson scored 14 points off the bench. Victor Oladipo chipped in with 10 points, five assists and three steals.
After ending the first period with a narrow 33-31 lead, the Squadron outscored the Herd 33-14 in the second frame to build a 66-45 halftime advantage. Birmingham scored 33 points in each of the first three quarters. Despite the loss, the Herd made 22 of 50 3-point attempts, just one shy of tying the franchise record.
