Baugh's late 3 lifts Valley Suns over Westchester Knicks
Damion Baugh hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 5.7 seconds remaining to lift the Valley Suns to a 106-104 victory over the Westchester Knicks on Tuesday night at Mullett Arena in Tempe, Arizona.
The Suns overcame a 13-point fourth-quarter deficit to snap a five-game losing streak.
Baugh, a G League Up Next Game selection, finished with a game-high 29 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the Suns (6-13). Jaden Shackelford, who scored 22 points and had eight rebounds, was instrumental in the Suns' comeback, hitting two crucial 3-pointers with less than 90 seconds left in the game. Off the bench, RJ Nembhard Jr. had 22 points and five rebounds. Forward CJ Huntley added 14 points, six rebounds and two blocks before fouling out.
The Knicks (6-15) were led by Pacome Dadiet, who scored 21 points. Isaiah Roby contributed 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Dink Pate added 12 points and 11 rebounds. Bryson Warren chipped in with 13 points, and Paul Zilinskas scored 10 points off the bench. Ibrahima Diallo recorded six blocks in just 19 minutes of action.
Westchester controlled much of the game, leading 56-47 at halftime. After the Suns rallied to tie the score at 70 late in the third quarter, the Knicks responded with an 11-0 run to take an 81-70 lead into the final period. The Knicks maintained their advantage for most of the fourth quarter until the Suns' late surge. A critical turnover by Westchester with 11.4 seconds left gave the Suns possession for the game-winning shot. Following Baugh's basket, the Knicks had a final chance, but Dadiet's 29-foot pullup jumper at the buzzer was off the mark. Turnovers were an issue for both teams. The Knicks committed 23 turnovers, and the Suns gave the ball away 20 times.
Up next: The Suns host the Salt Lake City Stars on Thursday at 2 p.m. ET, and the Knicks host the Grand Rapids Gold on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
