Jones scores 24 off bench to lead Lakers past Clippers
Tevian Jones scored a team-high 24 points off the bench to lead the South Bay Lakers to a 128-116 victory over the San Diego Clippers on Wednesday night at the UCLA Health Training Center in El Segundo, California.
Trailing by one heading into the fourth quarter, the Lakers took the lead for good with 8:49 left on a jumper by Jones and gradually pulled away, outscoring the Clippers 35-22 in the final period to head into the All-Star break with a victory.
The Lakers' (11-8) bench unit was key, led by Jones, who was 10-of-15 shooting, including four 3-pointers. Fellow reserve Anton Watson finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Starter Drew Timme was a consistent force inside, contributing 20 points and six rebounds. RJ Davis, who was recently named to the G League Next Up game, added 18 points, five rebounds and five assists. Bronny James came off the bench to score 12 points with six assists.
The Clippers (10-12) were carried by a pair of high-level individual performances. Guard John Poulakidas was sensational from long range, hitting a career-high 10 3-pointers. He finished with a game-high 30 points and added seven rebounds. Point guard Jaelen House orchestrated the offense with a career-high 17 assists while also scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds.
Hunter Sallis scored 20 points off the bench for the Clippers, and starters Zach Freemantle and Cam Reddish added 13 points apiece. San Diego built a 62-55 lead by halftime and held a 94-93 advantage entering the final quarter.
Up next: The Clippers play host to the Austin Spurs on Feb. 19 at 10:30 p.m. ET. The Lakers visit the Texas Legends on Feb. 20 at 8:30 p.m.
