Saraf scores 32 as Nets top Celtics
The Long Island Nets defeated the Maine Celtics 116-109 on Wednesday night at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Ben Saraf had a game-high 32 points on 12-of-19 shooting for the victorious Nets (15-10). He was one of seven Nets to score in double figures. Chaney Johnson provided 19 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Malachi Smith finished with 10 points, nine rebounds and nine assists. E.J. Liddell contributed 13 points and nine rebounds, while Trevon Scott added 13 points off the bench. Tyson Etienne scored 12 points, and Grant Nelson finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Amari Williams recorded a triple-double in the loss for the Celtics (12-14), finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Max Shulga scored 24 points, including 19 in the first half, and added six rebounds. Former Nets player Kendall Brown had 16 points and five rebounds in his return to the Coliseum. Jalen Bridges also scored 16 points to go with eight rebounds, while Hayden Gray chipped in 12 points and seven assists before fouling out. Keon Johnson added 10 points off the bench for Maine.
The Nets trailed 59-56 at halftime before seizing control with a 37-point third quarter, outscoring the Celtics by 13 in the period to take a lead they would not relinquish. Long Island shot 50% from the field for the game and forced 16 turnovers, while committing only 14.
