Labissiere, Williams lead Go-Go comeback past Gold

Skal Labissiere scored 34 points and Alondes Williams added 32 as the Capital City Go-Go erased a 16-point second-half deficit to stun the Grand Rapids Gold 126-120 on Thursday night at Van Andel Arena.

The Go-Go (14-14) mounted their comeback in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Gold 39-23 in the final frame. Kadary Richmond recorded a triple-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Chris Livingston chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds for Capital City.

Dane Goodwin led all scorers with 35 points for the Gold (9-19), shooting 7-for-12 from 3-point range. Curtis Jones added 19 points and six assists, while newcomer KJ Simpson scored 17 points off the bench in his debut. Coleman Hawkins had 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Grand Rapids appeared to be in control for much of the contest, building its largest lead of 16 points in the third quarter. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth. The turning point came with 9:06 remaining when Gold center Moses Brown, who had 12 points and nine rebounds, was ejected after receiving a second technical foul following an on-court altercation.

Capitalizing on the opportunity, the Go-Go surged ahead. A 3-pointer from Williams with 2:25 left gave Capital City a 119-115 lead. Grand Rapids made a final push when a steal and a 3-pointer by Goodwin cut the deficit to 124-120 with eight seconds remaining, but Labissiere hit two free throws to seal the victory.
