Taylor hits winning 3-pointer to lift Capitanes past Gold in overtime
Wade Taylor IV hit a winning 3-pointer in overtime to lift the Mexico City Capitanes to a thrilling 115-112 victory over the host Grand Rapids Gold on Tuesday night at Van Andel Arena in Michigan.
James Bouknight led all scorers with 28 points, including seven 3-pointers, for the Capitanes, who are vying for their first playoff berth. Taylor was crucial off the bench, scoring 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting. Jordan Minor added 12 points and six rebounds, and Tomas Chapero contributed 10 points and seven boards for Mexico City (21-8).
For the Gold (9-20), Curtis Jones paced the offense with 23 points and seven assists. Moses Brown was a dominant force inside, posting a double-double of 22 points and 18 rebounds with five blocks. DaRon Holmes II finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, KJ Simpson had 13 points and eight boards and Javante McCoy chipped in 12 points off the bench.
Grand Rapids appeared to be in control after building a 14-point lead in the third quarter, but the Capitanes stormed back with a 22-6 run to close the period and take an 82-80 lead into the fourth.
Mexico City extended its lead to eight points with 1:19 left in regulation before the Gold mounted a comeback. Grand Rapids scored eight points in the final 47 seconds, capped by a tying 3-pointer from Dane Goodwin with 22 seconds left to force overtime at 108-108.
In the extra period, with the score tied 112-112 and a target score of 115, Taylor sealed the win for Mexico City with his deep 3-pointer.
