Jones posts double-double as Cruise hold off Boom

Isaac Jones scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Motor City Cruise hold off a furious comeback attempt from the Noblesville Boom for a 135-131 victory on Tuesday at Wayne State Fieldhouse in Detroit.

The Cruise (16-12) had seven players score in double figures to secure the win. Tolu Smith also recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, John Ukomadu scored 19 points on 7-of-8 shooting (including five 3-pointers) off the bench and Jaden Akins added a strong all-around performance with 18 points, five assists and four steals. Dakota Mathias scored 25 points and added four steals, and DaJuan Gordon chipped in with 19 points in the losing effort.

Motor City appeared to be in complete control after building a 79-59 advantage into halftime. However, the Boom stormed back in the third quarter, outscoring the Cruise 40-22 to cut the deficit to just two points heading into the final period.

The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth contest, but the Cruise created separation late. After Noblesville cut the lead to one on a 3-pointer by Au'Diese Toney with 15 seconds left, Klintman hit his second of two free throw attempts to make give Motor City a 133-131 lead, and Jaden Akins sank two more with eight seconds remaining to seal the victory.

Up next: The Cruise will host the Boom in a rematch on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET.
