Blake Hinson scores 36 in debut as Stars rally past Legends
Blake Hinson scored 36 points in his Salt Lake City Stars debut, leading a second-half comeback to defeat the visiting Texas Legends 134-125 on Tuesday night at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, Utah.
The Stars, who trailed by as many as 24 points, stormed back by outscoring the Legends 44-18 in the third quarter. Hinson, playing the second night of a back-to-back after appearing for the Utah Jazz, was instrumental in the rally, shooting 14-for-24 from the field and hitting five 3-pointers.
Every starter for Salt Lake City (13-16) scored in double figures. Sean East II and Max Abmas each contributed 18 points, with Abmas adding a team-high eight assists. Matthew Murrell had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Steve Crowl had 10 points and 13 rebounds. Off the bench, Dereon Seabron provided a spark with 18 points, and Justin Harmon added 13.
Dalano Banton led Texas (8-20) with 30 points and a game-high nine assists. Miles Kelly followed up his 45-point performance from the previous night with 21 points. The Legends also saw double-double performances from Moussa Cisse, who had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl, who finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds. John Poulakidas and Mark Armstrong each chipped in with 14 points.
Texas dominated the first half, taking an 81-59 lead into the locker room. But the Stars flipped the script in the third quarter, using a barrage of scoring to erase the deficit and take their first lead of the game at 100-99 on a layup by Abmas with 37 seconds left in the period. Salt Lake City never trailed again.
Up next: The Stars travel to face the Rio Grande Valley Vipers on Friday at 8 p.m. ET, and the Legends will visit the Austin Spurs on Thursday at 8 p.m.
