Trey Alexander's 31-point double-double leads Squadron past Gold
Trey Alexander had 31 points and 13 assists in leading the Birmingham Squadron to a 122-95 road victory over the Grand Rapids Gold on Wednesday night at Van Andel Arena.
The Squadron (12-19) showcased a balanced offense with four players recording double-doubles. Christian Shumate contributed 25 points and 10 rebounds. Hunter Dickinson had 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Josh Oduro added 11 points and 14 boards. Johnny O'Neil scored 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and Chase Hunter chipped in with 13 points.
For the Gold (9-21), Javante McCoy came off the bench to lead the team with 19 points. DaRon Holmes II had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and KJ Simpson also scored 18 points to go with five assists. Dane Goodwin finished with 12 points in the loss.
Birmingham held a slim 56-53 lead at halftime, but the Squadron took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Gold 37-25 to build a comfortable cushion and then continuing to pull away in the fourth.
