South Bay Lakers hold off Iowa Wolves, tie franchise record with 10th straight win

The South Bay Lakers extended their winning streak to 10 games, tying a franchise record, by holding off a furious late rally from the Iowa Wolves for a 123-116 victory at home Wednesday.

Drew Timme led the Lakers (20-8) with 20 points, nine rebounds and five assists. South Bay saw seven players score in double figures. Dalton Knecht contributed 18 points and seven rebounds, and Bronny James and Malik Williams each added 17 points. Arthur Kaluma scored 16 points off the bench.

The Wolves (16-13) were paced by a game-high 29 points and nine assists from Zyon Pullin. Joan Beringer had 20 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Jules Bernard added 21 points, and Jalen Crutcher scored 19.

South Bay appeared to be in control, building a lead as large as 21 points in the second half. However, Iowa refused to go away, mounting a comeback that cut the deficit to just six points, 117-111, after a layup by Pullin with 1:18 left in the fourth quarter.

Timme answered on the ensuing possession with a driving floater to push the lead to eight with 54 seconds remaining. After a late turnover by the Lakers led to another Pullin layup to make it a five-point game, Knecht sealed the victory with a pair of free throws in the final six seconds.

Up next: The Lakers will host the Wolves in a rematch on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
