RayJ Dennis' double-double helps Skyhawks hold off Spurs
RayJ Dennis scored 23 points and dished out 10 assists for a double-double, leading the College Park Skyhawks to a narrow 119-116 victory over the visiting Austin Spurs on Tuesday night at the Gateway Center in College Park, Georgia, for their third consecutive win.
Dennis was part of a balanced Skyhawks attack that saw three players score over 20 points. Asa Newell also secured a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Keshon Gilbert contributed 21 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Skyhawks (10-20). Kobe Johnson provided a spark, scoring 17 points in just 19 minutes before fouling out.
Harrison Ingram paced the Spurs (19-12) with 22 points and a game-high 17 rebounds. Austin had six other players score in double figures, including Jayden Nunn with 17 points and Stanley Umude with 16.
The Skyhawks controlled the game early, building a 17-point lead in the first half. But the Spurs battled back, erasing the deficit and taking a five-point lead with 10:35 left in the game to set up a tight finish in a contest that featured nine lead changes.
College Park regained the lead for good at 104-103 with 6:03 left, and went up by seven when Dennis hit a jumper with 1:31 remaining. After a furious rally by Austin, the Spurs had a chance to tie, but Adam Flagler's 3-point attempt at the buzzer was off the mark, securing the win for the Skyhawks.
Up next: The Skyhawks visit the Westchester Knicks on Thursday at 7 p.m. ET, and the Spurs visit the Noblesville Boom on Friday at 7 p.m.
